A Heartwarming Musical:

When young Sara Crewe attends a boarding school in America, she soon clashes with the heartless headmistress.

After receiving dreadful news about her father, Sara discovers the inspiring lesson that no one is ever truly alone. This bestselling classic by Francis Hodgson Burnett has inspired many movie versions, including the popular film starring Shirley Temple

In this classic story of love, loss and ultimate triumph. It began as a popular 1905 novel from children’s literature you may recall from your own childhood or from having seen on or more of the story’s film adaptations — including the evergreen 1939 version starring Shirley Temple. ” A Little Princess” is among the best known of more than 40 books penned by Francis Hodgson Burnett (1849 – 1924). She is also known for the beloved novels “The Secret Garden” and “Little Lord Fauntleroy.”

A native of England, Burnett knew hardship. Her father died three years after her birth and the family soon experienced bankruptcy. Hoping for a better life, the Burnetts crossed the Atlantic in 1865 and settled in Knoxville, Tennessee. While still in her teens, Frances started writing as a way of helping to support her family during these trying times. Not surprisingly, Burnett’s writings featured themes of rags-to-riches. A story resplendent with motifs of friendship and redemption, “A Little Princess” reveals how faith in the sovereignty of divine Providence, combined with God-given optimism and imagination, offers a comforting reassurance that we are never truly alone in life. Among her last words, Burnett is quoted as saying, “…as long as you look toward the future, you are alive.” May we each look toward the days ahead knowing that the Creator who numbers our days (Psalm 90) will graciously lead each step of the way.
